So you’ve dropped the bass. Here’s how to pick it back up again…
You can distribute DJ mixes with RouteNote, but they need to be formatted in certain ways!
DJ mixes are where a DJ has mixed together, or compiled, a collection of tracks from other artists.
The most important thing to do before distributing a DJ mix release is to make sure that you have the appropriate rights. To upload someone else’s music to stores as part of a mix, you will need to have their express permission, or a binding written contract, allowing you to do so.
If you already have the appropriate rights for a DJ mix, the formatting requirements are as follows:
- Credit the compiling DJ (yourself) as a primary artist at album level only.
- The original artists for each track should be credited as primary artists at track level only.
- Never use various artists at album level.
- Album level title version must read DJ Mix.
- Track level title version must be Mixed.
E.g.
Album level
Primary artist: DJ Rob Underwriter
Title version: DJ Mix
Various artists: No
Track 1
Primary artist: SNAXX
Track title: Pea Snaxx Motherload
Title version: Mixed
Please note! Ensure to list all artists individually that apply to the Composer and Lyricist fields within the Publishing Details section of your release.
