RouteNote making you a master of metadata – this time, the P line!
The phonographic copyright field (P line) is there to identify who owns the copyright on the sound recording of the performance on the release. This should be whoever’s performing on the release.
Here’s an example of what a release’s C and P line might look like:
Primary artist: Lil Bubs
Track title: Flexin’
C line: Lil Bubs
P line: Lil Bubs
If you’re performing a cover, the original performing artist goes in the C line, but the artist performing the cover goes in the P line:
Primary artist: Funky JJ
Track title: Norwegian Wood
C line: The Beatles
P line: Funky JJ
The Beatles own the composition ‘Norwegian Wood’, but Funky JJ owns this performance of it.
Pop the name into the P line, as pictured below:
