Two of the same is not the aim ✌️
Stores don’t want the same personnel credited multiple times on releases for doing the same thing; that usually means crediting the same artist twice in performing roles (primary, featuring, with, performer, DJ). There’s a few ways this can come about:
Listing the same artist in the same role twice
Primary artist: Lil Bubs
Incorrect duplicate primary artist: Lil Bubs
If you’ve listed the same artist twice in the same role, we’ll usually remove the second entry for you. Unfortunately, you can’t list the same artist twice even if you’ve got multiple Spotify profiles and you’ve picked a different one for each entry; if this is the case, we’ll refer the release back to you and ask you to pick one.
Listing the same artist in different performing roles
Primary artist: Lil Bubs
Incorrect featuring artist: Lil Bubs
It doesn’t make sense to have an artist as the main artist, and also a featuring artist, so stores would reject this metadata. This would apply to any two performing roles (primary, featuring, with, performer, DJ).
Primary artist: Lil Bubs
Incorrect performer artist: Lil Bubs
In this case, Lil Bubs being credited as a primary artist already tells us that they’re performing on the track. Stores will regard the second ‘performer’ as being redundant information.
Primary artist: Lil Bubs
Incorrect primary artist: Murder Bubz
Here, the artist has listed two aliases that refer to the same person. Stores regard this as listing the same person twice.
Primary artist: The Beatles
Incorrect performer artist: John Lennon
Incorrect performer artist: Paul McCartney
Incorrect performer artist: George Harrison
Incorrect performer artist: Ringo Starr
If you’ve credited a band in one performing artist role, you shouldn’t credit the individual band members as well.
Correctly listing the same artist in non-performing roles
Primary artist: Lil Bubs
Correct producer artist: Lil Bubs
Listing the same artist as a primary artist and a producer is fine, as that’s a non-performing role.
Please note! Please also ensure not to list the same artist role twice in the Publishing Details of your release. However, you can list the same artist across both the Composer field and Lyricist field if this applies.
