Get the permission and it won’t be such a mission.
You are more than welcome to sample and remix your own content, however submitting a remix of someone else’s content means that you need to have their explicit permission to commercially release your remix of it through RouteNote.
Our partner stores rely on us to make sure everything we send to them is legitimate. Distributing a remix of someone else’s song without their permission would be a breach of copyright.
We’ve written a handy blog post that goes into more detail about how to legally use samples in your music here.
If we ask you about your rights to do a remix, we’ll need you to get the original artist to email us via moderation@routenote.com. Please make sure the following is included in the message:
- your username
- the UPC of the release
- confirming that you’re allowed to commercially release the remix
Unfortunately, we’ve had people send through fake screenshots of DMs and emails, so we won’t be able to accept these!
If you’ve put together a remix of a high profile track from a major label, it’s more than likely you won’t get their permission to release it to commercial platforms. This means that we’d have to reject the release.
Watch the video below to find out more on what you need to know to release a remix online!
