The name’s Note… RouteNote 🎬
Here at RouteNote we receive many questions regarding the creation of releases and what you can and can’t do. A question which we receive a lot is whether you can use your own name on a release!
Typically, you are able to use your own name on a release instead of creating a particular artist name. However, you must use both your first and your last name.
Singular names such as John, Ahmed or Saanvi would not be accepted, for example, as they are too generic. Once your releases have arrived on stores, there would be too many artists with the same name. Using both your first and last name helps to avoid confusion and increase discoverability for your music.
Please note, however, that some more common full names can still be considered too generic. Unfortunately, in this case, it would be suggested to use an alias. Ideally, you want your releases to be nice and easy to find! The more unique your artist name, the more chance you have of people finding your content easily, as well as reducing potential content mapping issues across stores
