What is Shazam?

Can’t find your jam? Shazam certainly can 👂

Shazam is an app that can identify music, films, adverts, and TV shows using a short recording of the audio. In November 2020, the app hit 200 million monthly active users globally, and this has continued to grow.

Shazam was born in 1999, but back in 2018, Shazam became part of the Apple family. So if you’re distributing your release to iTunes/Apple Music, your release will also be available on Shazam. For further information on what happened to Shazam, click here.

When you record audio using Shazam, this will create a digital fingerprint of that audio picked up from your microphone. This will then attempt to match with a digital fingerprint within their database of millions of music tracks and TV shows.

Once it finds a match, Shazam will give you the name of the song and artist, sometimes also giving you additional information like lyrics, sharing options, etc.
