As Avril Lavigne once said, why’d you have to go and make things so compilated?

There are two reasons why your release may be appearing as a compilation release;

RouteNote would usually class 4 or more Primary artists as Various Artists or Compilation releases, however, Spotify usually will consider 4 or more Primary, Remixers and With artists as Various Artist and Compilation releases. This means that if you have 4 or more primaries, remixers and/or with artists then your release will appear located on a Various Artists artist page on Spotify with a Compilation tag as shown below. If you have less than 4 primary artists, your release may not appear as a Various Artists/Compilation release on other stores.

Compilation tag:

Compilations, or Various Artists releases, will still credit all of the individual artists on stores. On Spotify, for example, the primary artist on the track will be listed underneath the track title. Clicking on the artist name will take you to the linked artist page.

However, there’s another reason why you might be seeing that compilation tag. If your release doesn’t contain 3 or more Primary artists, it may be that your tracks are already linking to releases already available on Spotify. In this case, your release may be considered a compilation. This could happen, for instance, if your release is a greatest hits release.
