Why is my release on the ‘Appears on’ section in my artist profile on Spotify?

Don’t settle for ‘Appears on’ if it should be at the heart of the profile 💝

There’s a few reasons why your release may be listed in the Appears on section on your artist profile on Spotify:

  • Your release is listed as a compilation
  • Your release is listed as a various artists release
  • The artist in mention is a featuring artist
  • The artist in mention is a remixer
  • The artist in mention is a vocal feature

If your release is appearing as a compilation or a various artists release

RouteNote classes 4 or more Primary artists as Various Artists or Compilation releases. Spotify, however, usually considers 4 or more Primary, Remixers and With artists as Various Artist releases.

This means that if you have 4 or more primaries, remixers and/or with artists in your release, then it will appear on a Various Artists artist profile on Spotify.

Compilations, or Various Artists releases, will still credit all of the individual artists on stores. On Spotify, for example, the primary artist on the track will be listed underneath the track title. Clicking on the artist name will take you to the linked artist profile.

If you do not want your release to be listed as a Various Artists release, you may wish to consider changing some of the primary/remixer/with artists roles to another artist role.

If the artist in mention is a featuring artist, a remixer, or a vocal feature

Please see our Support Hub article here for information on how artist roles appear in stores.

If your artist is not appearing as you wish it to on the platform, you may wish to reconsider the artist role you’ve assigned within your release details in your discography. If you find a role that may suit the artist better – you can make changes to your approved release by clicking edit on your release within your discography.

Once you’ve made the changes, your release will be sent to update moderation to be reviewed. If your update has been denied, a message stating why will be sent to your registered email address – please keep an eye out for this. Once your update has been approved, it will take around 7 – 14 days to be reflected on your selected stores.
