Can I use a backing track for my release if I have an agreement with the producer?

We heard it through the grapevine – if you’ve got permission, it’s fine.

If a producer’s specifically allowed you to use their beat as a backing track for your RouteNote release and we ask about it during the moderation process, you’ll have to ask them to contact us directly.

Unfortunately, we’ve had people fake screenshots of DMs and conversations with beats leasers, so we can’t accept these as evidence. Ask them to email moderation@routenote.com from an email address we can verify as theirs (e.g. the one listed on their YouTube channel), including your username and UPC with the email.

Sometimes, beats leasers use content that’s under copyright in their backing tracks. We find this is most common with free backing tracks – someone’s used samples from a high profile record to make a beat they’ve put together for fun, then they’ve put it on YouTube and said anyone can use it. In cases like this we understand that people who’ve downloaded and used that backing track won’t know that there’s copyright content in it, but we won’t be able to accept the release.
