What do I need to start producing music?

The pre-RouteNote process 👋

The two main things you’ll need to get yourself started is;

  • A computer
  • A DAW (Digital Audio Workspace)

DAW

An example of a DAW would be Garageband, which Apple products come with pre-installed.
However, if you have a PC, you’ll need to find a DAW yourself…

Here are some popular examples of DAWs:

  • Ableton Live
  • Logic Pro
  • Audacity
  • Cubase.
  • FL Studio
  • And many more!

We’ve got a super useful article on the best free DAWs for beginners in 2022 – to have a read, click here.

With these two products, you can get started! You’ll probably be wanting some extra bits to help you out with recording, for example;

  • An audio interface (to convert your recordings into a format your computer and software recognize)
  • A MIDI keyboard (a keyboard used to trigger sounds)
  • Studio headphones (to keep each individual recording clear without any background bleed)
  • Condenser microphone (for recording quieter sounds)

There’s lots of tools that you might find handy. Amazon is your oyster!

Don’t forget, to make your recordings sound better you can soundproof your bedroom or home studio.
