When the RouteNote moderation team gets déjà vu, we’ll let you know.
We can’t accept separate releases that are 100% identical. If two identical releases are uploaded, it’s likely that one of them will be disapproved.
Also, if you upload releases with different audio, the metadata can’t be identical. Imagine you’ve uploaded your new track and an extended mix of it as two different single track releases. This is okay, but you’d have to specify the difference somewhere in the metadata, most likely in the title versions.
There are reasons users may want to upload nearly identical releases, but with different stores and territories selected that don’t overlap. If you upload two identical releases but one was set to only be available in France on iTunes, and the other was set to only be available in Canada on Spotify, this would be okay because both releases wouldn’t end up on the same store. There are very few situations where anyone would need to upload a release like this, however.
Incorrect example:
UPC: 5040302010908
Artist Name: MC J-Dogg
Track Title: Christmas in Camborne
Title Version:
UPC: 5040302010909
Artist Name: MC J-Dogg
Track Title: Christmas in Camborne
Title Version:
Here, even though the audio may be different, the metadata is identical. In this case, we’d have to send one of these releases back to you and ask you to make a change to the metadata of one of them.
Correct example:
UPC: 5040302010908
Artist Name: MC J-Dogg
Track Title: Christmas in Camborne
Title Version:
UPC: 5040302010909
Artist Name: MC J-Dogg
Track Title: Christmas in Camborne
Title Version: Extended mix
Here, the title version tells customers what the difference is between the two releases.
