Do you recognise this information? 📋
When uploading a release through us here at RouteNote, you might be told that your release isn’t eligible for content recognition and, consequently, it won’t be sent to certain DSPs. Read on to see what this actually means.
The stores which use content recognition are:
- YouTube Content ID
- Meta (Instagram and Facebook)
- TikTok
These stores use systems to identify, manage, and protect copyrighted content. They do this by comparing uploaded content to their reference libraries to detect matches. This ensures that the rights holders can monetise or block their content.
If you’d like your releases to be delivered to these DSPs, your release must abide by certain rules and not include any of the following:
- Backing tracks and instrumental loops: If these are not wholly original creations where you possess the rights to both the composition and the recording.
- Samples: Including samples from other copyrighted work.
- Royalty-free music library tracks : While you may have a license to use these tracks in your projects, the license is usually non-exclusive, meaning others also have the right to use them.
- Karaoke versions, sound-alike recordings, and covers : These will be based on the original content and will require rights of their own.
- Remastered versions: This will not be allowed unless significant original input has been used on the release.
