If you upload a YouTube video that contains copyright-protected content, your video could get a Content ID or copyright claim. These are automatically generated when an uploaded video matches part of another video in YouTube’s Content ID system. This is different to a copyright strike!

Copyright owners can set Content ID to block uploads that match a copyrighted work they own the rights to. However, they can also allow the claimed content to remain on YouTube with ads. In these cases, the claim allows advertising revenue to go to the copyright owners of the claimed content. You’ll know when your video has a Content ID claim, as you’ll get an email from YouTube.

When someone distributes their music through RouteNote to YouTube’s Content ID system, we’ll claim on any YouTube video that contains matching audio from their release on their behalf. 

If your video has a Content ID claim from RouteNote, this usually means YouTube’s Content ID system found audio on your YouTube channel that someone who uploaded their content to RouteNote owns.
